I have more to say than what I am about to say, and I hope I remember to say it. I just finished watching a two part documentary called 'The Root of All Evil'. This root basically being; religion.
I agree with much that is said in this documentary, but feel that there is more that could have been said. There was more that could have been analyzed, more that could have been showed as contradictary in religion, and franky; to be bullshit.
Perhaps the presenter of this piece was actually trying to be too nice. I'm going to have to watch it again in order to structure and articulate my thoughts properly.
I want to talk about sin, morality, faith (I believe, I believe, just tell me what to believe and I'll believe it).
Then there's the matter of a god. I frankly find the concepts that religion present us with to be childish and small minded. Science is exposing a universe (or universes) that's so much more elegant and profound than the pathetic stories that religion would haveus believe. If anyone took the trouble of reading about quantum physics or m-theory (string theory), they'd find that the universe that religion presents us with is vastly inadequate to the majesticly complex reality that we are slowly unveiling through questioning and doubt. If I had to choose between doubt or faith, I'd choose doubt every time. I'd rather not know, than believe I know something without truly knowing.

Sorry about the crappy ending in the previous posts, I promist to make up happier endings.

m-theory thought

something I was thinking about m-theory... what if the existance and density of specific elements are... hmmm, how to put this. So m-theory proposes the concept of branes (membranes), which are 11D, and that this is what matter is made up of. So then what if different types of branes, or the different ways in which branes overlap in 11D 'space', related to specific elements, and that those specific overlappings (I like that one better than a whole bunch of different branes, hell, maybe it's all one overlapping brane... or brain ;) ) allow for further interlocking overlappings which could be how more complex molecules are formed and exist. From that perspective we're just reality overlapping with itself. Everything is just Everything overlapping with Everything.

gay cocaine

ok, so picture this. I go to someone's place for a smoke and, while I'm going, I take along my laptop to copy some shit. the laptop fits in this really stazzy silver suitcase made of plastic, and would have looked a bit mafia if it wasn't for the shoulder strap. so I go over there, and do as intended. They invite me to join in a game of poker, which I decline. one of the cool things I find, whilst copying shit, is the old Outer Limits series. They offer me white powder, I decline, they partake. I close my laptop and reach for the beer and a cigarette and realise I just shut down my laptop by closing it. After much struggling whilst hearing the snifflings of the others, as if there was a bit of a cold going around, I manage to get it started up again - it first behaves a bit odd. When I get it up again I can't find Outer Limits. Anywhere on the network. I've been sitting between everyone and the computer on which the stuff was, so I know no one has gotten to it, and there's a folder created when it started copying, but nowhere to be found. Digital haunting. Daunting. Later I get access to Outer Limits which is infact on the network, but wasn't shared. Whhooooooeeeeeoooooo. Then they start looking around for cash and call their dealer, and I get quietly uncomfortable and leave after two of the other guys leave to go meet him. All the time I'm thinking about the briefcase, and how it would look if anyone was watching them and saw me arrive and then later leave with it. On the way home I thought I should write this down.

oooh - I witnessed a fist fight today
two taxi drivers - now first you gotta understand that the term taxi in SA, although it can apply to your normal understanding of a taxi generally refers to a mini-bus (combi) with a maximum load of, like 12 ppl that usually carries up to about 20
and they drive like lunatics
you generally just give them right of way if you don't want your car scratched, dented or compacted
but this taxi driver was behaving towards the other taxi as he would towards a normal motorist, and the other taxi driver wasn't having it - he basically got pushed into the lane of the oncoming traffic, moved ahead and stopped in front of the other taxi at the traffic light
got out, walked over to the other taxi and started pounding the guy through the window
the other guy eventually managed to get the door open and get out, but could quite get at the other guy cos he was still holding on to his jacket through the window
which he eventually just shrugged offby the time it was clear of oncoming traffic and the light was green and I could get past them to turn off they were rolling around on the ground and the stunned passangers were starting to approach them in an attempt to pull them off each other
what fun!

That life show

Oh, I forgot the other option, how silly of me.

There is the eternity of burning in hell. Won't that also get boring after a while? I mean sure, excruciating pain for the first few centuries or millenniums, but eventually you'll stop mid-scream and go; 'Hey, this isn't so bad anymore - you demon, could I have some pitchfork in butt over here?'

Besides - what's with this whole supposed gameshow concept of life? Frankly, I'll take my chances with door number three - the mystery prize!

I also find it hard to believe in a deity that would not allow his/her creations to aspire to godhood. A deity that's apparently so insecure that it had to create all of reality to worship it and praise it all the time. "Tell me I'm good." That's a bit like a parent that has his children put down at puberty so that they won't reach adulthood.

And the point is?

So you may believe in the existance of a greater power or not. Either way it all seems rather pointless. What's the deal? Live and die and be wormfood - pointless. Life and die and then go on to some after-life where you sing praise to some deity for the rest of eternity... I think I may rather prefer the wormfood option.
